After months of denials, Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey have finally admitted their perfect marriage is over.
The sexy couple have been the subject of persistent speculation that their relationship was falling apart, and now Simpson and Lachey have put the rumors to bed reports inthenews UK.
Last month celebrity gossip magazine US Weekly ran a cover story calling the spilt. According to the magazine, it was Nick who called the marriage off. US Weekly blamed Jessica Simpson, with a headline declaring, "Details on Jessica & Nick's last days -- and how her ego, partying and dad drove them apart," reports Newsday.
In the midst of these rumors, sources have recently told Star Magazine that Jessica is 6 weeks pregnant. Despite the split, a source close to the couple tells Star, "They are not filing papers anytime soon. Who knows? Maybe they'll get back together."
A LITTLE HISTORY
OCTOBER 2004
Reports that their union was in trouble began last October following a wild bachelor party attended by Lachey. The couple denied those stories, with Simpson telling PEOPLE MAGAZINE: "Our relationship is better than it's ever been."
"After three years of marriage, and careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways," the statement says. "This is the mutual decision of two people with an enormous amount of respect and admiration for each other. We hope that you respect our privacy during this difficult time."
JULY 2005
In July Jessica's father and manager, Joe Simpson, denied reports that the marriage was over, after Simpson was snapped without her wedding ring.
"Do they fight? Hell yes, they fight. Have there been moments when Nick has wanted to leave Jessica or Jess has wanted to leave Nick? Absolutely," said Joe, explaining that the squabbles were not to be interpreted as a sign of major trouble in the union.
"(It's the) same with me and my wife," Joe insisted. "If fighting is a sign of divorce, then we're all going to get divorced. My wife and I have been married 27 years. We've been at the edge of divorce for 26 of them."
AUGUST 2005
In August, sexy New York Folk spilling to Cindy Adams over at the Post, said divorce papers were already drawn up and signed.
At the time, sources said the divorce was being muzzled so as not to harm their TV show.
Cohosting TV's Live With Regis and Kelly with Kelly Ripa the day of Adams's item, Lachey said that everything was "absolutely wonderful" in his relationship with Simpson. He also denied being jealous of Simpson's movie career.
The pair first met at the Hollywood Christmas Parade in 1998, when Lachey was still a member of the pop group 98 Degrees reports People Magazine
They married in a huge ceremony on Oct. 26, 2002, in Austin, Texas. Their new life together - mostly spent at their home in Calabasas, Calif. - was chronicled on MTV's reality series Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica."
