Tom Cruise buys ultrasound machine

Tom Cruise has bought a ultrasound machine for his pregnant actress fiance Katie Holmes so they can monitor the development of their child at home reports BBC

In an interview with ABC's Barbara Walters to be aired on a November 29 television special about the "most fascinating people of 2005," Cruise said: "I'm going to donate it to a hospital when we are done."

Cruise said the couple will do their own scans with the ultrasound machine which show fetus development.

But he said he would not reveal whether the child was a boy or girl to the media ahead of the birth.

When presenter Barbara Walters asked him, "So what do you see?", the 43-year-old actor said "A little baby".

A sonogram machine, which uses ultra-sound to look at a foetus's development, can cost between $150,000 and $200,000, according to People magazine, which published excerpts from the interview on Wednesday.

Cruise, who announced his engagement in June, said the couple will tie the knot in summer or early autumn next year.

As for reports that Tom's Scientology beliefs will ban Katie from yelling out during childbirth .

"There have been misinterpretations that the woman can't make any noise," said Tom.

"It's just not true. It's nutty. Whatever she's going through she's going to go through. And I'm going to be there."

Meanwhile the couple have apparently decided their baby will be the ring-bearer at their nuptials.

A source is quoted in Britain's Daily Star newspaper as saying: "There's no way he's letting his first biological child miss his wedding.

"It will be a celebration not only of their love, but of their new family. And knowing Tom, it'll be a big celebration."
