Death Row Records CEO Marion 'Suge' Knight is in intensive care at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach following surgery to remove a bullet from his leg and repair a fractured bone.
According to police, Marion "Suge" Knight was shot in the leg around 12:42 a.m. Sunday morning at a party hosted by Grammy-award-winning hip hop artist Kanye West at the Shore Club Hotel in Miami.
Eyewitnesses said at least six shots were fired during the incident, which occurred in the club's Red Room.
"I was dancing beside him, then I heard a pop that sounded like a champagne bottle had been opened, then I saw his bodyguards throw themselves on him," New York-based artist Lilo Kim told The Miami Herald. "It happened so fast, people were in a panic, trying to get out of there."
Celebrities who attended the party included Jessica Alba, Eddie Murphy, Paris Hilton, the Game and The Black Eyed Peas, but it was not clear if they were still there when the shooting happened.
An off-duty Florida Highway Patrol officer on a security detail at the hotel's Red Room bar saw scores of guests pouring out of an inner room at the bar shortly before 12:45 a.m. Eastern time.
Authorities said their investigation has yet to turn up any suspects, though they are continuing to speak to eyewitnesses. A police report described the shooter as a black male wearing a pink shirt.
"We are interviewing all the witnesses we can to hopefully develop a composite," Miami Beach police spokesman Bobby Hernandez said.
