DETAILS Unveils 2009 Mavericks

DETAILS magazine has unveiled its fourth annual Mavericks list, celebrating those individuals who are reshaping the worlds of politics, media, entertainment, and science. These rule-breakers’ contributions have a profound influence on the way we do—and think about—everything.

The 2009 Mavericks appear in the April issue of DETAILS, on newsstands today, and can be viewed online now at www.Details.com.

The 2009 Mavericks are:

Nineteen Rule-Breakers Profiled on Fourth Annual List

Ken Bunt, 39, SVP Marketing, Hollywood Records: forward-thinking music executive has embraced social networking to connect with fans and better determine what they want.

Jack Dorsey, 31; Evan Williams, 36; Biz Stone, 35: Cofounders, Twitter: the perfect combination of idea generation, business savvy, and creative genius has made the social-networking site an overwhelming success; more than 6 million individuals and entities, from Demi Moore to GM, are now Twittering.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt, 28, Actor/Director/Producer: former Third Rock From the Sun star has been acting since age 6 and has amassed 26 film credits. He is now working on developing hitRECord.org, a video community site that allows aspiring actors/directors/producers to showcase their work online.

Jason Kilar, 37, CEO, Hulu: the video-streaming site, which allows viewers to watch a variety of TV content, has been one of the most talked about and influential media developments over the past year.

Demetri Martin, 35, Comedian: the cerebral comic got his start as a writer on Late Night With Conan O’Brien and parlayed that into a gig on The Daily Show With Jon Stewart. He currently has his own Comedy Central show, Important Things With Demetri Martin.

Seth MacFarlane, 35, Creator, Family Guy, American Dad, The Cleveland Show, Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy: TV’s one-time youngest executive producer is now its wealthiest, with a new $100 million contract to keep Family Guy and American Dad on Fox through 2012.

Andy Samberg, 30; Akiva Schaffer, 31; Jorma Taccone, 32: The Lonely Island: the comedy trio is best known for its “Digital Shorts” that appear on Saturday Night Live, and have produced three of the four all-time highest-rated clips on Hulu.

Nate Silver, 31, Information Guru: the “sports geek” from Chicago has now proved himself to be one of the most reliable forecasters in politics. His election-polling blog, fivethirtyeight.com, accurately predicted November’s results in 49 states, and nailed Obama’s popular vote to within four-tenths of a percentage point.

Steve Stoute, 38, Founder, CEO, Translation Consultation and Brand Imaging: branding guru has pioneered a number of successful collaborations, including Justin Timberlake and McDonald’s, Mary J. Blige and Chevy, and LeBron James and State Farm Insurance.

Says Wojcicki, “If we give individuals information and form communities around that, we can revolutionize and dramatically accelerate the pace of research.”
