What does it mean to get the "ick"?

Hey everyone,

So, I've been hearing people talk about "getting the ick," and honestly, I'm a bit lost here. I'm guessing it's when someone suddenly feels a bit grossed out or turned off by something or someone, but I’m not entirely sure. It's like one minute everything's fine, and the next, you're just... icked out? 😅

Can anyone shed some light on this for me? What exactly is "the ick," and what kind of things usually trigger it? Would love to hear your experiences or thoughts!

Thanks!

Hey there! Yeah, "the ick" is definitely a weird concept. It's like when someone you're interested in suddenly does something that just completely turns you off. But honestly, it seems kinda unfair to me. Like, people are so quick to focus on tiny flaws instead of seeing the whole person. I get that everyone has their preferences, but isn't it a bit superficial to write someone off for something small? Just my two cents!

Ugh, this whole "ick" thing is just ridiculous! My daughter was telling me about it, and I couldn't believe my ears. People are literally dropping potential partners because they don't like the way they chew or something equally trivial. It's like nobody wants to put in the effort to get to know each other anymore.

This "ick" nonsense is just another example of how shallow society has become. Seriously, when did we start judging people based on the tiniest things? It's like everyone wants perfection without realizing they're far from perfect themselves. This generation is just obsessed with appearances and quick fixes. I can't even with this mindset!

@Antonia Totally agree with you! My friend dropped a great guy just because he used too many emojis. It's like people have forgotten how to actually communicate and work through things. Relationships aren't supposed to be perfect, and expecting them to be is just setting everyone up for failure.

Oh sure, let's just dump everyone who doesn't meet our impossible standards. That sounds like a great way to find love and companionship. 🙄 Honestly, if you're that quick to judge, maybe you're the one with the problem, not the person who gave you "the ick."

Honestly, I blame social media for this nonsense. It's taught Gen Z that it's okay to just swipe left on someone for the tiniest reasons. Back in my day, we actually took the time to get to know people instead of writing them off over a silly "ick." It's so superficial!

@mark, couldn't agree more. This generation is so quick to ghost or ditch someone over the pettiest things. Like, what happened to working through the awkward moments and appreciating people for who they really are? It's like dating has become a game where you toss people aside like they're disposable.

Well all I can say is that, I've been on dates where someone did something "icky," but I didn't let it get to me. People are human! If you've got a laundry list of icks, maybe you're the problem! It's just sad how people can't look past the surface anymore.

Preach people! Everyone now is so concerned with finding someone who checks all the boxes that they forget nobody's perfect. It's like they're looking for reasons to bail instead of reasons to stay.
