Renoir painting stolen

A Renoir oil painting that was about to be sold in auction has been stolen as brazen thief removes it from display and walks off with it. The small 14cm by 12.2cm painting was called Portrait d’une Jeune Fille Blonde (Portrait of a Blonde Young Girl) and was set to be sold today. Despite not being a well known work by the famous impressionist artist the painting was still expected to sell for £22,000 – £26,500 at auction in Saint-Germain-en-Laye near Paris. In 1990 the “Dance at Le Moulin de la Galette” painting by Renoir was sold for $78 million.

Police are currently examining cctv images to try to find the culprit behind the theft.
