Pete Doherty is set to record a song with Lee Mavers, the reclusive former
frontman of The La’s.
The Babyshambles musician is currently making his first solo album – which
is said to have an electronic influence - and has persuaded Lee to duet with
him on one of the tracks.
A source said: “Pete has really pushed the boat out on this record. Parts of
it sound like Gorillaz. He’s been experimenting wildly with loads of
unconventional techniques.”
The La’s released their debut album in 1990, which spawned the classic
single ‘There She Goes’, but split two years later.
Although other members of the band went on to join new groups, most notably
bassist John Power who formed Cast, Lee shied away from media attention amid
rumours of eccentricity and drug abuse.
Pete is a huge fan of the Liverpool band, even covering their song ‘I Can’t
Sleep’ at a recent show.
Earlier this year, Pete posted footage of himself and Lee performing
together on video sharing website YouTube.
In the footage, which was shot at Pete’s Wiltshire home, Lee played guitar
while Pete clapped along.
