On Tuesday, Kidman’s 39th birthday, paparazzi awaiting the perfect shot of a pre-ceremony Nicole received an unexpected gift. They became excited when the garage door of Kidman’s harbourside Sydney house began to rise, but were greeted by a case of beer and water instead of the Oscar-winning actress. The 24 bottles of Victoria Bitter included a note that read, "Enjoy!, Nicole and Keith."

Kidman’s gesture was a reaction perhaps to the paparazzi’s earlier attempt to woo her. As it is her birthday, the photographers surrounding her home sent her flowers and sang her the birthday song over her gate intercom. After her serenade, Kidman came out to talk to her pursuers and told them what she had planned for her birthday: "Not much, dinner at home with mum ... boring. Thank you for the flowers and the singing."
