It is now possible to read the autopsy findings for Terri Schiavo. Those expecting a hot beach read might want to look elsewhere. There follows a typical paragraph.
"The neuropathologic findings, oropharyngeal anatomic findings, and medical records clearly indicate that Mrs. Schiavo would not have been able to consume sustenance safely and/or in sufficient quantity by mouth. In fact, the records and finding are such that oral feedings in quatities sufficient to sustain life would have certainly resulted in aspiration. According to medical records, she had been treated in the past for aspiration pneumonia. Claims from caregivers of past oral feedings are remarkable, and, based on the autopsy findings and medical records, these feedings were potentially harmful or, at least, extremely dangerous to Mrs. Schiavo's health and welfare."
Meanwhile, Governor Jeb Bush of Florida has asked a state prosecutor to investigate the circumstances of Terri's collapse, with an intimation that Michael Schiavo had not called for help soon enough. In the face of the Bush family, what is there to do but honk a clown horn? (By Scott Rose)
