Britney Spears' boyfriend wants to marry her -- but the singer is not interested.

"Britney sees the stories of beatings by Trawick as a way of finally escaping the firm grip that her dad has had," a source told close to the star American tabloid the National Enquirer.

"Jason thought he could do damage control over the beating reports by taking Britney on a romantic trip to Mexico to show that everything's fine.

"He even believed she would marry.

"There was no ring, no down-on-one-knee. It was more like a business proposal.

"Britney told her mom Lynne that Jason must think she's stupid if he thought she'd say yes."
