Rue McClanahan has passed away.

Golden Girls Star Rue McClanahan Dies at 76

Rue McClanahan was known for her roles as Vivian Cavender Harmon on Maude, Fran Crowley on Mama's Family, and Blanche Devereaux on The Golden Girls. She died at 1 AM this morning after suffering a massive stroke. McClanahan, had suffered a minor stroke earlier this year while recovering from bypass surgery reports PEOPLE.

She was 76 years old.

At the time of her death, McClanahan was surrounded by family and loved ones. "She went in peace," says her manager.
