Rebecca Romijn felt like a "milk machine" when she gave birth to her twins last year.

The 'X-Men' star – who stopped breastfeeding nine-month-old daughters Dolly and Charlie last month – could not believe how much milk she needed to produce to keep two babies happy.

The 36-year-old actress said: "I finished nursing three weeks ago. And yes, I was a milk machine! I felt like that's all I was to them, just this walking milk machine."

Although breastfeeding left Rebecca "constantly dehydrated", it meant she shed her baby weight quickly.

She told website Starpulse.com: "Because I'm an actress, the pressure to lose weight quickly is definitely there. But honestly, nursing did most of it. It requires so many calories per day to nurse two babies. That was the fastest, but I still have a little way to go."

Rebecca recently started filming new US TV show 'Eastwick', leaving husband Jerry O'Connell at home alone with the twins for the first time.

But instead of being heartbroken at leaving her babies, Rebecca is thrilled because the girls are far more attached to her now they see her less.

She said: "Honestly, I was with them right up until they were six months which is when we started shooting, and I felt like they kind of took me for granted a little bit, like Jerry would walk in, and they'd be like, 'Ahhh.’

"But then they never even noticed that it was me with them the whole time. Now that I'm not there as many hours during the day, they're pretty clingy and I have to say I love it. It's the best feeling in the world."
