Whitney Houston is being sued by her stepmother for allegedly ignoring the
wishes of her late father.
In the lawsuit filed in a federal court in Newark, the 45-year-old singer is
accused of improperly keeping the proceeds of her dad John Houston’s
$1million insurance policy.
Whitney’s stepmother Barbara Houston claims the money was meant to pay off
the $723,000 mortgage on John’s Fort Lee condominium, in New Jersey, where
she still lives. Whitney holds the mortgage on the property.
Barbara also claims her late husband wanted the remaining insurance money to
go to her.
Lawyers for Whitney and her stepmother declined to comment on the lawsuit.
John died from cardiac arrest in 2003, aged 82.
Whitney is believed to be currently working on her seventh studio album.
She divorced R‘n’B singer Bobby Brown in 2007 after 14 years of marriage and
has custody of their daughter Bobbie Kristina, 15.
