Network censors may have pondered that very question earlier this year, when they ruled that 30 seconds of grainy, home-movie-ish footage of the actress wearing little more than a smudge of black eyeliner in a commercial for Calvin Klein’s new eau, Secret Obsession, was too hot for TV. (Not to worry. Mendes—albeit slightly less of her—will still be steaming up your flat screen this fall.) The original “isn’t shocking at all,” says Mendes, whose Sophia Loren contours will also, around the same time, be featured in ads for a new Calvin Klein Underwear line for curvier women called Seductive Comfort. “But it does have a really intimate quality that makes people nervous.” In other words, it’s typical Calvin Klein.
