French president Nicolas Sarkozy and his stunning wife Carla Bruni have fueled speculation that the model-turned-singer is pregnant.

The couple were on holiday at the family villa in Cap Negre on the French Riviera.

She was in a purple bikini, while her 53-year-old husband wore yellow trunks.

Nicolas Sarkozy was snapped touching Carla Bruni's stomach.

Asked whether she was pregnant, the 40-year-old replied: ‘No, unfortunately not.

'I wonder if my stomach’s not bigger – because everyone is asking me the same question.

'I’m not pregnant and I regret it because I love it when I am.’

Bruni will appear on the BBC2 program the Jools Holland Show, performing alongside Paul McCartney and Metallica airing September 16.
