They Have The Best Hair In Hollywood
1. Rihanna
On the cutting edge
Like most stars who suddenly decide to lop off their hair, Rihanna’s dramatic makeover unnerved some industry bigwigs. “Def Jam didn’t want me to do this look,” admits the “Umbrella” singer, whose angular bob has encouraged copycats from as far away as her native Barbados. But Rihanna herself didn’t stress over the makeover. “She was definitely not nervous,” reveals stylist Ursula Stephen. “The confidence she exudes is amazing.” “I don’t care who likes it,” says Rihanna about her cut. “This is me.” Rihanna’s first plunge was a chic razored bob.
2. Gwyneth Paltrow
Gwyneth made a bold move
Separation anxiety is not uncommon when anyone chops a significant amount from their signature coif. So when the time came for Gwyneth Paltrow to trim hers, the Iron Man star turned to celebrity hairdresser Orlando Pita for an in-between, shoulder-grazing length. “She thought it was a little boring,” he says of Gwyneth’s former cascade of pin-straight hair, noting that the new cut “is still long enough to tie into a ponytail.” “She wanted something that didn’t look too clean and perfect,” says Pita of Gwyneth’s cut. “She’s the wife of a rock star and would rather represent that image than that of a Hollywood starlet.”
3. Jennifer Aniston
Fans still envy Jen’s ’do
While Jennifer Aniston’s famed shag lives on in Friends reruns, the man responsible gives her the unfussy layers she looks great in today. “Jen has a really good head of hair,” says longtime stylist Chris McMillan. “I don’t have to do much.” In fact, achieving perfection involves little more than a round brush and a blow-dryer. “One of her favorite styles is just glassy straight and parted off-center.” Jennifer’s hairstyle has been the same for more than 12 years now.
4. Vanessa Hudgens
Vanessa looks romantic
Vanessa Hudgens plays plain-Jane Gabriella Montez in Disney’s High School Musical, but in real life the 19-year-old admits she’s much more high-maintenance. “My hair and makeup take so long. If I tell you honestly how many hours, I will sound like a diva,” she says. But an insider says Vanessa’s enviable shiny waves come naturally. “Vanessa’s got that natural piecey texture that women dream of,” explains celebrity stylist Rodney Cutler, owner of Cutler/Redken salons. “It’s a perfect example of youthful, disheveled femininity that looks super sexy without trying too hard.” Loads of layers help keep Vanessa’s waves from looking weighed down.
5. Isla Fisher
Isla’s color stands out
Natural redhead Isla Fisher, who’s known for her ravishing hair, says, “It was great having red hair as a kid because I had something to blame my temper on.” Rita Hazan, of the Rita Hazan Salon in NYC, says, “Isla is a perfect example of what a redhead’s color should look like: rich.” Isla’s red hair is the perfect complement to her porcelain skin.
6. Katie Holmes
Katie’s sleek bob is so chic
When Katie Holmes bobbed her hair last spring (and later added bangs), women raced to their stylists for the same short shag. Katie’s inspiration seems to be her daughter Suri, who sported the cut before Mom followed suit. Not only has the snip helped reveal Katie’s stunning features — like those sky-high cheekbones and gorgeous green eyes — but it’s ideally suited to her new style-icon status. And it’s practical, too! “As a wife and mother, Katie was probably looking for an easy-to-maintain, chic style — and she found it!” explains Alma G., celebrity stylist and owner of The Alma Salon in NYC. The cropped cut instantly added such sophistication to Katie’s look, it’s hard to believe she hasn’t yet turned 30.
7. Gisele Bündchen
Gisele’s perfect waves
“Immaculately tousled” might seem like a contradiction in terms — unless we’re talking about Gisele Bündchen’s waves. According to Harry Josh, Gisele’s stylist and creative consultant for the John Frieda Collection, her loose, messy strands do whatever you want them to. “It’s the dream hair for any girl,” he tells In Touch. “The other day a woman on my plane was pulling on my hair to see if it was real!” says Gisele. It is. Lucky girl. “I think my success as a model is because of my boobs and my hair,” says Gisele, who promises to never cut her signature locks.
8. Charlize Theron
Charlize totally transforms her look
Academy Award-winning stunner Charlize Theron is famous for altering her physical appearance for her roles (like 2003’s Monster), and the same can be said about her hair. “Charlize is notorious for transforming her look just by styling her hair in different ways,” explains TRESemmé celebrity stylist Nathaniel Hawkins. “She can go from beachy to retro to sophisticated — anything is possible with her hair!” When asked if she worries about the toll of all those changes, Charlize shrugs, “It’s just hair. It grows back.” Charlize’s up ’dos are always elegant but relaxed — never severe.
9. Victoria Beckham
Victoria started a cut craze
Victoria Beckham admits her extensions used to fall out during sex with hunky husband David. “It was so embarrassing!” she reveals. No wonder she chopped them off! Dubbed “the Pob” (for Posh + bob): “Everybody wants to copy it,” stylist Jessica Galvin, who cut Victoria’s hair, tells In Touch. “She makes women want to go short because she shows that it can be feminine.” The cut is flattering because it flaunts one of the sexiest parts of a woman’s body — her neck. Victoria says her husband, David, prefers her hair short.
10. Kate Hudson
Kate is so laid-back
Casual Kate Hudson inspires fans with her beachy cascade of waves, and her stylist says she’s as carefree as she looks. “She says, ‘Dude, just do what you want with my hair,’” reveals David Babaii. Adds Kate, “I’m an easygoing girl — if I need to, I’ll do my own hair.” Now, with the Bohemian Beach Spray from David Babaii for WildAid, a hair-care line he and Kate created (10 percent of proceeds help protect endangered species), anyone can copy her look. Kate’s stylist David Babaii creates her beachy ringlets using a three-prong curling iron.
