Rose McGowan and Robert Rodriguez break up

The duo ended their love affair because of his intended Jane Fonda space flick Barbarella remake, ENQUIRER reports.

After first publicly appearing as a couple at Cannes, Rodriguez announced a slate of three exploitation pics they were doing together.

McGowan was to star in Barbarella, Red Sonja, a Robert E. Howard barbarian remake and Woman in Chains! a W-I-P (women in prison) flick.

According to the New York Post's Page Six, Barbarella was behind the breakup.

Rodriguez couldn't attract financing for the French femme sci-fi flick after the Grindhouse double feature tanked at the box office.

"Instead, the moguls were saying, 'We need a bigger star, a bigger name', “ a source told the paper.

Jessica Alba's name was a possible replacement.
