Helen Mirren always looks good. Even in things that would ridiculous on anyone else. But this ensemble, with its stunning hat, is one of her best ever. It was certainly best at Ascot.

Some women just can't pull off big-brimmed hats. No, I don't mean they can't them off their heads. I mean that no matter what they do, it just doesn't work for them. I am one of those women. I am short, and with a wide brim I look a bit mushroom-ish.

Not so Dame Helen Mirren, whose black and white outfit with its stunningly sheer, tiered brim is by far the best this year, whether it be Ascot or Derby Day. The outfit is simply perfect. Younger women would do well to take notes, as none of the younger set has the style or innate fashion sense to put together something so fresh and yet so classic. Brava, madam!
