Former Velvet Revolver singer Scott Weiland was released from a Van Nuys, Calif., 10 hours after he turned himself in to police following his DUI conviction, PEOPLE reports

Weiland, 40, who had been sentenced to serve eight days in jail for the offense was allowed to leave the jail at 6:54 p.m. Monday, according to the L.A. County Sheriff's Web site.

Weiland is also required to complete an 18-month alcohol education class and pay nearly $2,000 in fines.
