SARAH JESSICA PARKER, CYNTHIA NIXON AND KIM CATTRALL CHAT ABOUT THE DELAY IN MAKING UPCOMING SUMMER FEATURE “SEX AND THE CITY”
Sarah Jessica Parker knew the time was ripe for the “Sex and the City” movie: “I knew we couldn't wait two more years...that there is an expiration date to this idea and even though I didn't know the story we were going to tell then I knew the idea of what Michael [Michael Patrick King] would have done and I just felt instinctually that we should start revisiting and dancing around the topic.”
Kim Cattrall cited personal turmoil as the reason she didn’t want to shoot the film right after the series ended: “I look back at that time and I was going through a really rough divorce and this amazing job that I'd had for seven years was coming to an end and my dad was also diagnosed with dementia, which was I think the hardest of all to bear and I think I needed to take a time out.”
Cynthia Nixon says the cast respected Kim’s need for a break: “I think Kim did not want to make the film right after we finished and then we all heard that and we didn't want to make it without her obviously, we couldn't make it without her. So we took a little breathing time.”
