Verdicts of unlawful killing through grossly negligent driving - or gross negligence manslaughter - were returned by the jury in the inquest into the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, northumberlandgazette reports

The jury found that the accident was "caused or contributed to" by the speed and manner of driving of the Mercedes and the following vehicles, the impairment of the driver Henri Paul through alcohol, the fact that neither were wearing seatbelts and that the car hit a pillar in the Paris underpass.

The jury's decision came after more than 23 hours of deliberation, PEOPLE reports. Earlier Monday, the coroner Lord Justice Scott Baker said the 11 member could return a majority verdict as long as nine of them agreed.
