Jerry Seinfeld's brakes gave out while he was driving his 1967 Fiat BTM in East Hampton, NY on Saturday , National Enquirer reports .

Seinfeld swerved to keep the car from running into an intersection and ended up flipped over just yards from the highway. The maneuver "probably avoided a very serious accident," according to East Hampton Town Police Chief Todd Sarris.

"It could have been a lot worse, obviously, and thank God it wasn't. He's fine," Seinfeld's wife Jessica told the New York Post. "He was a little shocked when he walked in and it started to dawn on him what happened."

"Because I know there are kids out there, I want to make sure they all know that driving without braking is not something I recommend, unless you have professional clown training or a comedy background, as I do," he told the Post. "It is not something I plan to make a habit of."
