Maxim has really stepped in it this time. Perhaps they should just stick to their soft porn photo spreads - it's what they're good at - and leave the intellectual stuff to more intellectual rags.
Recently Maxim was called out for reviewing the Black Crowes' new album, War Paint, without actually listening to the whole thing. The Crowes haven't had a hit album in years and are probably running low on reefer money, and were outraged by the inaccurate report. Maxim issued a rubber stamp apology and supposedly all was well, but now comes news that they've done it again.
Maxim also reviewed Nas' new album, N----r, and gave it a 2.5 star rating. Only trouble is, the album isn't even done yet, and won't be for another two months or so. Nas downplayed the whole thing, saying he wasn't sure what, if anything, a music review from Maxim meant, but that's two strikes: If they've gotten caught twice, they've probably done it twenty times without getting caught. Are we unearthing a payola-type scandal, or are the reviews the fruits of a renegade journalist, cracking under the pressure of a looming deadline with nothing to show? It's Miss Cleo! I knew it! The FCC couldn't hold her down forever. She's a firebrand.
