Fashion Good News, Bad News: When Does Couture Become Haute?

Fashion

It's all in the fit. A $150 dress can look better than a $3,000 gown if it fits right. It can also mean the difference between a nice dress and the best dress at the ball.

Representing good news is one Dita Von Teese, whose biggest fashion faux pas to date would be marrying Marilyn Manson. What would look ridiculous on almost anyone else looks stunning on Dita, because she understands fit. Her wardrobe is meticulously tailored to her waspish frame, and the result is always perfect. The only thing I don't like is that teeny little beanie thing on her head.

Bearing some less perfect news is Blake Lively of Gossip Girls. She's young and relatively new to stardom, so maybe we should cut her some slack on this one. Perhaps she just hasn't learned that you can't just throw on an expensive dress and expect it to look red carpet-ready. She could also hire a stylist until she gets the hang of it. Then she wouldn't look like she was wearing someone else's dress.
