Spector and the attorney in question, Robert Shapiro, were long-time friends when Phil hired him to defend him against murder charges. As is the routine, Shapiro had Spector sign a "non-refundable retainer" of $1,000,000. Claiming he was taken advantage of at a time when he wasn't taking his meds and "laboring under a tremendous amount of mental stress that comes with being arrested for murder," Spector is suing Shapiro for a refund of that non-refundable retainer. Spector also goes on to say that Shapiro caused "horrendous" problems during the trial. Huh. At least he was there every day.
Spector is lucky to be walking around a free man, but that's what a million-dollar dream team can get you. He's just pissed it's not a permanent release - there's still the retrial, but the state is going to have to get their game on. Retrials are usually better for the defense because they've already seen the prosecution's cards, so to speak. Unless new evidence has been discovered it's all old news.
Like OJ, Spector was able to buy himself the best defense possible. Unlike OJ, he has to do it all over again, and is probably pissed he's got to pay for it twice. Ergo the lawsuit. Because you know just looking at his pinched, miserable little face that he must hate having to pay for anything.
