Miss Puerto Rico 2008 Ingrid Marie Rivera's makeup and dress were covered in pepper spray before she graced the pageant stage , AP reports

A pageant spokesman told the AP, "We thought at first it was an allergic reaction, or maybe nerves. But the second time, we knew it couldn't have been a coincidence."

The pepper spray incident came after Rivera was robbed of her gowns, makeup and credit cards, and the pageant itself was delayed due to bomb threats.

A tearful Rivera said, "At one point I said, `Am I a masochist?' But I said, `I am with God and this is my goal, regardless of the results.'
