Andrew Morton In Hiding, Menaced By Scientologists
|
While researching his book on Tom Cruise, do you think Andrew Morton wondered why the popular American press hadn't covered Scientology? He could have asked around a bit. What he would have found out may have made him reconsider. If not, he and other intrepid investigators not scared away by an unfriendly wall of silence can count on a much more unpleasant fate. Andrew Morton is probably the only person that has run toward, not away, from Tom Cruise in the last few years. Morton wanted to find out what makes the little megalo-messiah tick, and to dig a little deeper into the mystery surrounding Scientology. Unfortunately for Morton, the cult doesn't tolerate snooping of any kind, and he's been forced to go into hiding. The "Church" of Scientology has long been vigilant in protecting its members and practices from the prying eyes of an ignorant public. After all, how could anyone possibly understand the wonders of Scientology without hours of brainwashing and signing over everything they own? This group's enforcers are an especially brutal bunch, and they've set their sights on Morton after Cruise learned of Morton's plans to document his love life and sexual proclivities. Morton better hide really well. The cult is known for this type of heavy-handed harassment against anyone who dares to speak against their teachings. There are endless lawsuits, menacing phone calls late at night, menacing drivers on deserted roads; there are even those who ended up dead at the hands of these zealots. I hope Andrew Morton's book makes a lot of money (if it's as good as his Princess Diana book it will), and that he lives long enough to enjoy it. |
