The 26-year-old star will don a spaceman's outfit and take part in a lunar expedition for his latest Hollywood blockbuster.
The space adventure will see the 'Zodiac' star join a group of pioneers who are determined to become the first people to build a colony on the moon.
The movie will be directed by 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith' filmmaker Doug Liman and is yet to be given a title.
The script was originally penned by Liman with the help of 'Along Came Polly' director John Hamburg, but it will now be rewritten by 'Black Hawk Down' scribe Mark Bowden.
