Colin Farrell has a reputation for being a playboy and a party animal, but he may soon be known as a philanthropist as well. While in Toronto for the recent film festival, he encountered a homeless man and proceeded to take him on a shopping spree.

According to a columnist for Toronto's National Post, the man was waiting outside Farrell's hotel on Tuesday. He had known Farrell from when the actor had shot a film in Toronto in the past. When he saw Farrell, he told him, "It's my 55th birthday tomorrow."

Colin responded by taking his homeless friend to a shop called Europe Bound, where he told employees to "get him what he wants," reported the Sun. The man left the shop with a new coat, sleeping bag, socks, boots and new underwear. In addition, Colin provided his pal with enough money "enough money for first and last month's rent," claims the Post.

Europe Bound's manager told the Sun that Farrell "was a cool guy. He didn't act like a movie star. It was like they were best buddies. The homeless guy was going around grabbing stuff. Everything was top line."

The man himself said, "I'm all set up. This is my chance to get off the street."'
