Nicole Richie’s trial delayed

Nicole Richie’s trial has been rescheduled for August 16, and the court has ordered that Richie be present reports PEOPLE.

The trial originally scheduled to take place on Wednesday was delayed because Dr. Terence McGee, a drug expert who is going to testify on Richie's behalf, is out of the country.

"He can speak to the lack of reliability of urinalysis testing," Richie’s attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley told Commissioner Steven K. Lubell . "He is crucial to her defense. If he is believed, and I believe he will be, than Richie will be acquitted."

"I am ordering Richie to be here on that date," Lubell said. "And I would like the trial to start on that date."
