“I love summertime,� gushes Matthew McConaughey. And while the 37-year-old enjoys grillin’ and chillin’ with his girlfriend of three months, Brazilian model Camilla Alves, he is happiest when he’s using the beach as his own personal outdoor gym. From strength-training to surfing, the often-shirtless hottie has been burning lots of calories on the Malibu beach, near where he’s parked the Airstream camper he lives in. “I’m getting quite a workout from all the paddling I’ve been doing,� says Matthew. “What better way to enjoy summer than at the beach!� Matt, who recently finished shooting the movie Surfer, Dude, likes to hit the waves every day. “I get out there at 5 a.m.,� he says.

After 23 days in jail, Paris Hilton sought refuge at her favorite place in the world — the beach. “It’s so relaxing,� the 26-year-old says. Her first stop was Maui, Hawaii, where Paris frolicked in the waves and caught some rays. Then, she headed back east to her new beachside Malibu pad to unwind. “It’s very healing and relaxing here,� she tells In Touch. “I love the beach and lying out in the sun.� Paris’ new home is right on the beach. “I love being in Malibu,� she says.
3. Cameron Diaz
Cameron is crazy about surfing
Growing up in Long Beach, Calif., Cameron Diaz spent a lot of time on the beach. “You stayed all day and ate corn dogs,� the 34-year-old says. Four years ago, she learned how to ride the waves — and now she’s hooked. “Ushering a wave that has traveled across the world into the shore is amazing,� Cameron says. “It’s definitely a spiritual experience, the closest you can get to Mother Nature, which is God to me.� Cameron has broken her nose four times while surfing. “I’m a tomboy at heart,� she says.

Bachelor hunk Andy Baldwin tones his ripped body on the beach. “There’s no better place to work out because you can get sandy, sweaty and hot and then cool off anytime in the water,� the U.S. Navy lieutenant, who is stationed in Hawaii, tells In Touch. “And you get a tan in the process!� The 30-year-old says he never has to hit the gym to lift weights because he gets great exercise surfing, swimming, paddle boarding and playing volleyball on the beach. “It’s the perfect place to enjoy life,� says Andy. Andy was an All-American swimmer in high school.

One of the only places in the world Beyoncé feels she can escape to is the beach. Once, in Phuket, Thailand, “I walked around barefoot and nobody knew or cared who I was,� says the 25-year-old. Today, Beyoncé and her boyfriend, Jay-Z, are often seen hand in hand at luxurious resorts all over the globe — from Anguilla to St. Tropez. “I love, love, love the beach!� she says. “The sound of the ocean is so calming. It’s God’s cure for anything that troubles you.� “Whenever I go to the beach, I wear the brightest clothes,� she says. “They make me feel happy.�

When he’s not working, Hugh Jackman tries to go to the beach every day. “There’s nowhere else where I feel like I can just let it all go,� he says. And there’s no one he enjoys splashing around with more than his kids, Oscar, 7, and Ava, 2, and his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness. “I try to spend as much time with them as I can,� says the 38-year-old. The family has a favorite spot in their native Australia on Byron Bay. “There’s a secluded little beach where we go quite a lot,’’ Hugh says. “We just hang out. I love the ocean.�

Lindsay Lohan’s 21st birthday bash at an oceanfront Malibu home was a far cry from the blowout that she originally planned in Las Vegas. But with more than 30 days sober, Lindsay is trying to maintain a healthier lifestyle. So on July 2, with close friends and family by her side, she played beach tennis and took photos of the festivities to celebrate. And it wasn’t the first time Lindsay turned to the beach for some peace of mind — she’s said that long walks on the shore help her clear her mind: “Before, I wouldn’t have known to do something that was a bit more earthy to make yourself feel better, rather than going out and getting wasted. Whether she’s balancing on a paddleboard or splashing in the surf with her 3-year-old son, Ryder, on the beach near their Malibu home, Kate manages to get a great workout while still having fun in the sun. “You don’t ever feel better than when you’re moving,� she says. “No matter how you do it.� Kate took surfing lessons to help tone up her post-baby body.

Denise Richards hits the beach so much, she’s got enough bathing suits to wear a different one every day of the month! “I love a two-piece and anything pink or sparkly. And a yellow bottom looks great with a tan,� says the 36-year-old, who guesses that she owns about 40 bikinis. While she enjoys the sunshine everywhere from Turks and Caicos to the Bahamas and Hawaii, Denise makes sure to use SPF 25 every day, “even if it’s cloudy.�

“Every trip to the beach with him is romantic,� Heidi Montag tells In Touch about her fiancé, Spencer Pratt. “Some people have fun at clubs. But we have fun by the water.� Adds Spencer, “We’re serious beach people.� Besides soaking up the rays, the Hills co-stars like to get physical when they’re outside. “We box, run and play Frisbee or volleyball,� says Heidi, 20. “When you’re on the beach, it’s like you’re finally out of the office,� adds Spencer, 23. “It’s our getaway. If there’s sand and ocean, we love it,� Spencer says.
