Lindsay Lohan formally charged with DUI, hit and run

It's been nearly two months since Lindsay Lohan was cited with a DUI after crashing her 2005 Mercedes-Benz SL65 convertible. But the actress was only formally charged with the crime on Thursday due to her medical condition at the time of the incident. At 4:15 on Thursday, she surrendered to Beverly Hills police and was released about an hour later on $30,000 bail.

Lohan's court date for the charges - driving under the influence and hit and run - was set for August 24. At the time of her car crash, the 21-year-old actress (then 20) had twice the legal amount of alcohol in her system, tests have proven. The tests also show that Lohan had used cocaine, while a search of her car on the day of the accident revealed that she possessed "a usable amount" of the drug as well.

Lohan entered a 45-day treatment program at Promises in Malibu two days after her May 26 arrest. She completed the program on July 13 and is now voluntarily wearing an alcohol-detection bracelet to quiet speculation that she may not be sober.
