Speaking with People only hours after being released from the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, Paris said, "Thank God I'm free!" She also told about the emotional early days in the facility that lead to her transfer to house arrest. Hilton explained, "I was basically in the fetal position, basically in hysterics…The doctors were observing me while I was there. They explained to Sheriff [Lee] Baca that they thought I was having severe anxiety, panic attacks, claustrophobia."

Paris said that one of the best things about being free was human contact. She told People, "Just being able to hug my mom felt so great, and I really needed it 'cause I haven't had a hug in a long time." She also reacted to the doubters who believe that she won’t change after her jail time. "They're wrong and they don't know me,�? she said. “I'm a good person. I'm a compassionate person. I have a big heart. I'm sincere, and they'll see."
