"She's going to be doing extended care. It was her choice," said Dina Lohan. Linday's mother made the statement at an impromptu press conference outside of a Long Island courtroom where she appeared for a hearing on her ex-husbands request for visitation rights with their children, the NY Daily News reports.

Dina added that she speaks to Lindsay every day. When asked how her daughter was doing, she replied, "She's doing great."

There's no official word yet on how long the extended stay will last but some close to the Lohan family say they still plan to travel to California next week to celebrate Lindsay's 21st birthday.

Ty Dux, Dina Lohan's security guard/publicist (interesting combination of job roles.) said the celebration will take place away from the Malibu rehab facility and stressed that "no alcohol" will be served.

"Lindsay is looking to rebound even better," Dux added. "She wants to prove to everybody that she means it."

We respect Dux's PR spin on the matter but I'd like to offer another scenario. Could it be that with all the hoopla Paris' jail release is sure to cause over the next couple of weeks, Linday is afraid of a total media eclipse?

It's a fabulous idea if you really think about it. Postpone your exit from rehab, give the paparazzi time to recover from Paris overload and then reclaim your spot in the media spotlight.
