Nicole Richie goes diva at the Australian VMAs

Nicole Richie has gotten too big for her size zero britches. The starlet was in Australia last weekend to appear at the country's MTV Video Music Awards. While she was there she left on many Aussies the impression that she had become quite a diva.

Nicole first slighted a fan at the Sydney airport upon her arrival on Saturday and then again at the VMAs on Sunday. The 17-year-old girl told Fox News.com's Pop Tarts column, "We've been waiting to see Nicole for two days straight. We waited for 10 hours at the airport and now all day at the awards. We barely even got a glimpse, and I'm devastated."

Fox News also got a crew member from Nicole's Los Angeles to Sydney flight to comment. The snitch said, "Nicole wasn't very nice. She has no charm." Perez Hilton, who often badmouths Richie on his website, co-hosted the VMAs pre-show and commented on the buzz about the "Simple Life" star. He told Sydney's Herald Sun, "Yes, the big news is that she has been difficult."

The Herald reports that Richie's management demanded that she be given a large dressing room for the event. And Nicole would not leave her fancy quarters to participate in a dress rehearsal for the show, though stars like Pink and Fergie did participate. Claims the paper, "Not even boyfriend Joel Madden, from Good Charlotte, could cajole [Nicole] outside." Because of Nicole's refusal to rehearse her appearance, she mispronounced the winner's name when she presented the award for Best Male Artist to Shannon Noll.

Later in the night, Nicole took out her frustration on Joel and they fought. The Herald claims the couple left the VMAs afterparty early to go back to their hotel room. An onlooker saw the pair leaving an elevator and heard Joel saying, "I'm in trouble".
