For years Mary-Kate Olsen was known for her squeaky-clean image. Then came an eating disorder, college in New York, dropping out of college and taking up smoking. Suddenly Mary-Kate wasn’t a role model any more. Now the 20-year-old actress is returning to her roots: acting and being a goody two shoes – at least on camera.
Mary-Kate will have a recurring role on the third season of the Showtime series “Weeds.� She will portray Tara, a Christian love interest for Silas. Silas, played by Hunter Parrish, is the son of main character Nancy Botwin, played by Mary-Louise Parker. The character of Tara will be in two-thirds of the season three episodes of “Weeds.�
Series creator and executive producer Jenji Kohan said, “We're confident Mary-Kate is right for the role. She came in and read with Hunter and was absolutely charming and real and seemed like a great fit. Audiences have seen only one side of Mary-Kate, but here we'll see her in a whole new light."
Olsen said, "I'm thrilled to be a part of the show. It's really an honor to be a part of such a talented group of actors and writers."
