Doctors believe Britney was using alcohol to deal with her depression.
A source told TMZ.com: "No doubt about it - she likes to
drink. But doctors think she is drinking to cope with a bigger problem.
"They strongly believe post-partum depression is the problem. Their other
theory is that she is suffering from bipolar disorder."
Britney - who gave birth to son Jayden James last September, almost exactly
a year after her first son Sean Preston was born - is said to be reading
Brooke Shields book 'Down Came the Rain'.
The tome details the actress' own battle with post-partum depression.
Britney Spears is "doing great" in rehab, according to actor Daniel Baldwin.
Daniel, 46, claims he bumped into the troubled 'Toxic' singer at Malibu's Promises rehab center when he was leaving the facility after completing his own treatment for drug addictions.
Daniel - the brother of Hollywood stars Alec, William and Stephen - told Us Weekly magazine: "I told her if she needed anything or if she wanted me to bring anything to her where she's at, I'd be happy to come see her.
"She's doing great, she looks great. She seemed like she was a little fearful. I mean, she's a young girl - I have kids older than her. I think that she knows that she needs some help, and God bless her. All we can do is pray. That's what I want people to do - pray for her."
Daniel gave mum-of-two Britney, 25, his mobile number so she could keep in touch, and told the star "don't drink, don't use".
Last week the troubled singer shaved her head after two alleged suicide bids, two stints in rehab, wild clubbing and shaving her legs in a public pool .

When a cackling Britney Spears shaved her head in front of stunned hairstylists and minders after yet another crazy few days, it was a desperate cry for help that followed almost three months of erratic and disturbed behavior from the singer reports NW Magazine.
After months of hard partying, claims of alcohol and drug abuse, trips to rehab, a string of one-night stands and rumors of lesbian affairs, it seemed obvious to all she'd reached breaking point when the singer took the clippers to her own head.
When Britney filed for divorce from Kevin Federline in November 2006, fans and industry insiders were jubilant. Many believed the aspiring rapper had been responsible for ruining the pop star's career, leaving her trapped at home with their sons - Sean Preston, 18 months, and six-month-old Jayden James - while he partied and spent her millions. Incredibly, it now seems Kevin may have been a steadying influence in her life. Within weeks of leaving him, Britney was partying hard with new pals, including Paris Hilton, and giving onlookers more than one panty-less eyeful as she swapped motherhood for reckless nightclubbing.
In other news, a bald Britney Spears doll in a straight jacket is up for sale on internet
auction site eBay.
The one-off clay model, named "Britney Shears", has had 11 bids so far - the
highest reaching £42.
One eBay member wrote on the site: "HILARIOUS. This is the best item ever! I
'd bid for it if I had money to throw around. Thanks so much for such an
amusing and well crafted piece of work."
The unnamed sculptor, whose other bizarre work has featured on Jay Leno's US
chat show, has incurred the wrath of furious Britney fans.
One shocked fan said: "You are a truly sick person. Why can't people just
leave Britney alone. Sicko!"
