Beckham won't play soccer for six weeks

Real Madrid soccer star David Beckham won't be playing soccer any time soon. He has been benched for the next six weeks following a knee injury that he sustained in Madrid on Sunday night while playing against Getafe.

An insider told People magazine, "David has suffered ligament damage in his right leg. It's not good news but it could have been a lot worse." Beckham got the injury when he ran into some advertising signs near Getafe's goal. At the time he was reaching for the ball. He attempted to continue playing after the injury, but had to leave the field in the 63rd minute.

When Beckham was first hurt, some were concerned that it might impinge on his $250 million deal to join Los Angeles soccer team, L.A. Galaxy. The insider said, "It won't affect the family's move to the United States."

In the hours before his injury, Beckham celebrated his son Brooklyn's eighth birthday with his wife Victoria and their other children at a burger joint in Madrid. People's source said, "The day started so well with a birthday party for his son...The kids had a ball...And all [of Brooklyn's] school friends were there too."
