 | | The real story behind Jennifer Hudson's bolero
| | | |
Throughout awards season, plus-sized beauty Jennifer Hudson has managed to outdress all of her stick thin rivals on the red carpet. But at Sunday night's Oscars, it looked like she left her normally A-plus fashion sense at home. She showed up for the ceremony in an otherwise lovely chocolate brown Oscar de la Renta gown, but chose to pair it with a metallic python print bolero. What happened? According to Page Six, Vogue's Editor-at-Large, Andre Leon Talley was behind the fashion faux pas.

An insider told the gossip column, "Jennifer was kind of sponsored by Talley and Vogue." (The magazine put her on its March cover, making her the third African-American non-model in the magazine's history to make the cover - the others were Oprah Winfrey and Halle Berry.) The source continued, "Andre insisted she wear that hideous Oscar de la Renta dress with the awful, awful gold python bolero. Jennifer really didn't want to, and so [celebrity stylist] Jessica Paster got her a beautiful gold Roberto Cavalli custom-made. But when Andre found out, he went ballistic. Moments before she left for the show, there was a power struggle and Jennifer ended up putting his outfit on."
As afterparty pictures make it clear, Hudson chose to wear the Cavalli dress once the ceremony ended. According to Us Weekly, the newest Best Supporting Actress winner even confessed to Matt Lauer that her dress was her only regret of the night.
