TV show "Extra" first reported that Spears, who has drawn criticism for her recent partying without panties, had entered a treatment facility. TMZ.com then said the singer checked out one day later reports AP

People magazine's Web site, citing "a source," said Spears had gone in and out of rehab, and identified the facility as Eric Clapton's Crossroads center in Antigua, in the Caribbean.

"Access Hollywood" then said the reports weren't true, but didn't cite a source.

Harvey Levin, of TMZ.com, said that Spears' family, concerned about her excessive partying and drinking, staged an intervention and made her go to rehab.

"Her family and friends staged what I guess you would call an intervention and basically said you have to go," Levin said. "[They] got her to go to a facility there and I am told she was there for a very short period of time and said this is not for me and left."

Last week, Britney, 25, was seen throwing up in a bag in her limo - then throwing it out of the window.

Family and friends begged her to seek help after she went clubbing night after night to ease the pain of her divorce battle with Kevin Federline, 28.

She was seen swapping clothes with dancers and was pictured in Los Angeles wearing no knickers on a string of nights out during a short-lived friendship with Paris Hilton reports SUN UK.

Pals fear the last straw came when she was dumped by her model lover Isaac Cohen earlier this month.

Britney’s publicist Gina Orr would not deny she had gone into rehab, saying only: “We will not be commenting on her personal life.�

On Tuesday, Hollywood.com posted an e-mail that it said was from a former assistant to Spears, describing how the pop star was spiraling toward rock bottom and how friends and family wanted her to seek treatment.

On Wednesday, Justin Timberlake slammed his ex-girlfriend Britney Spears during his Brit awards acceptance speech.

Justin Timberlake was named best international male solo artist at the Brit awards on Wednesday, and used the opportunity to jokingly warn the audience about the perils of drinking reports People Magazine.

"Thank you very much for this," Timberlake, 26, said via video link. "I'm very flattered. I'm actually on tour so I couldn't be there. Everyone have a great night. Stop drinking! You know who you are. I'm speaking to you. You are going to get sloppy." Then, referring to a British tabloid, he joked, "OK! magazine is going to say something bad about you."
