Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie adoption update

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have slammed reports that they are planning to adopt a Vietnamese child from the Tam Binh orphanage in Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City.

A spokesman for the orphanage tells Star, “Brad and Angelina have not been back to our orphanage since their visit in November. I’d only wish that they were adopting from us! There are many orphanages in Vietnam that they could adopt from, but it certainly is not us.?

Last week, source told Us Weekly, the couple have filed adoption paperwork with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration to adopt a boy from Ho Chi Minh City's Tam Binh Orphan Sponsor Centre.

The Centre's director, Nguyen Van Trung said that back in January two reporters from the UK's Times Daily visited the orphanage, presumably on behalf of the prospective adoptive parents. The reporters asked about the laws regarding Vietnamese adoption and were looking for "a 5-year-old brisk and pretty boy," according to the Vietnam News Network.

Trung said, "We would be very happy if a child here can be adopted; they will have a better life with their adoptive parents than in here. However, if foreigners want to adopt a Vietnamese child, they will have to follow Vietnamese laws." One stipulation of Vietnamese adoption law that could prove troubling for Brad and Angelina is that in order to adopt a child as a couple, they would need to be married. States Vietnam Express, "If they want to adopt a Vietnamese child, only one of the two can come forward and apply for the adoption."

The star couple made a surprise visit to the orphanage last November, while Angelina was on break from filming A Mighty Heart in India. In January, they made another visit to Ho Chi Minh City, amidst speculation of another, possible adoption.
