Singer Jessica Simpson, says all the pain she suffered in 2006 has taught her a lot about herself.

Simpson's 2006, included a divorce from Nick Lachey, a failed album, a botched Dolly Parton tribute, and weight gain.

"Everything that happened last year made me realize what I want from life and what's important. I've learned so much about myself and I've taken on a whole new perspective." ContactMusic quoted her, as saying.

"This time last year, I really thought I knew myself completely. But I didn't at all. I was in this place where I wasn't going up or down or figuring anything out. I was so complacent," she added.

Last week the singer/actress, was spotted canoodling with singer John Mayer.
