"Once you hit three, and you're outnumbered, it's really like, 'What's the
difference between three or four or five?'
"For me, the most important thing that I've contributed is my children."
Ashton gets on well with his three step-daughters, Rumer, 18, Scout, 15, and
Tallulah, 12, and has also expressed his desire to become a father.
Demi also revealed she was surprised that Ashton fell for her, as she
expected a man of his age to play the field.
"I think it caught us both by surprise, and particularly him.
"He was in this real rise of his career just as we met, which for a young
man is prime opportunity for heavy-duty play.
"If somebody would have said, 'OK, here is the prediction: You're going to meet a man 25 years old and he's going to see being with you and having your three kids as a bonus,' I would have said, "Keep dreaming."
Demi also revealed she and Ashton joke about their age gap.
She said: "We've teased each other recently about doing The Graduate on Broadway but, you know, historically, real couples being onscreen together never seems to work. But a project that we create, that we're maybe more behind-the-scenes? I couldn't think of anything better, because there isn't anybody that I would rather spend my time with."
Demi also talked about her body
She said: "Here's the amazing thing. When I stepped away (from Hollywood), which was on the heels of G.I. Jane, I’d been on a long physical run of absolutely manipulating and forcing my body. … I thought, I just have to stop. I actually stopped exercising and started to eat in a way that was very reasonable. And the amazing thing is, my body transformed closer to what I always hoped for. [But] being thin does not equate to happiness."
