Brandy involved in deadly car crash!

Brandy was swept back into the spotlight last year as one of the judges of the hit show, "America's Got Talent." Since the show's first season ended in August, however, there hasn't been much Brandy news. Unfortunately, the reason the singer is in the headlines again this time isn't so positive. The press had just discovered that she was involved in a hit and run in late December.

A statement from the California Highway Patrol claims that 28-year-old Brandy's 2007 Land Rover was traveling 65 mph when it hit the back of a 2005 Toyota, carrying 38-year-old Awatef Aboudihaj on December 30. Aboudihaj then ran into another car and into the road's divider. A fourth car hit Aboudihaj again, causing her to sustain major injuries. She passed away the next day at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center.

Luckily for Brandy, she was not injured in the accident. Only one other driver was hurt. Brandy spokeswoman told People magazine, "Brandy's holding up the best that she can. It has taken a toll on her." She also released a statement for the singer that read, "She wishes to publicly express her condolences to the family of the deceased. Brandy asks that you respect the privacy of every one involved at this time."

A rep for CHP said that Brandy was "very cooperative and helpful" during the aftermath of the accident. He added, "We can't conclude if there's any criminal negligence involved. It's just too early to tell."
