Why Jessica Simpson Broke Down

Jessica Simpson is devastated over a deadly car crash involving "Prison Break" star Lane Garrison, who was taken in by her family when he was a troubled teen in Texas.

After hearing the news, the 26-year-old singer broke down crying and botched a singing performance at a tribute to Dolly Parton at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

Witnesses say Jessica Simpson abruptly ended the song "9 to 5" with the words "so nervous" and quickly exited the stage. Her breakdown was the subject of national headlines the next day but no one knew what caused it reports The Enquirer.

Shortly before midnight on Dec. 2, when Lane, also 26, lost control of his SUV in Beverly Hills. His vehicle jumped a curb and struck a tree, killing one of his three passengers - a 17-year-old boy. The two other occupants - both 15-year-old girls - were injured. One remains hospitalized in serious condition.

On Dec. 4, Beverly Hills police announced that alcohol was a contributing factor in the accident and that they were awaiting test results to determine whether Lane was drunk. A police spokesperson also said that alcohol containers were in the vehicle when it crashed. Lane, whose character "Tweener" was killed off in the Oct. 2 episode of the FOX-TV drama, suffered only minor injuries.

On Monday, Star Magazine reported that it was Jessica Simpson's faulty dress that made her cry during a tribute performance to Dolly Parton at the Kennedy Center Honors event on Nov. 3.

As she sang a version of "Nine to Five" to honor Parton, reports say she was seen on tape grabbing the strapless gown with one arm, while holding a microphone.

She was able to keep her gown up until the end of the song, but was visibly upset as she ran off stage.

In other news, Jessica Simpson claims men are trying an ingenious way of hitting on her -
flirting with her mother first.
The 'Dukes of Hazzard' actress insists she hasn't been short of potential
suitors since she split from Nick Lachey in November 2005. The couple
officially divorced in the summer.
Jessica, 25, has rebuked countless but has revealed that some are now trying
out bizarre new seduction techniques to try and impress her.
She said: "Last week a guy tried to hit on my mom. He was saying how
gorgeous, young and sexy she was but he was also kind of hitting on me. This
guy knew I really loved my mum and thought he could get to me like that."
