Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes hosted a post-wedding party on Saturday night
(09.12.06) for friends unable to attend the ceremony last month.
Guests were invited to enjoy a lavish party - estimated to have cost
$400,000 - held at the Beverly Hills home of the ‘Top Gun’ actor’s
producing partner Paula Wagner, and her husband, Rick Nicita.
Steven Spielberg, Oliver Stone, Orlando Bloom, James Van Der Beek, Diane
Sawyer, Larry King and Tom’s ex Penelope Cruz were among the guests, as well
as Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony who also attended the wedding in Rome.
Oprah Winfrey - who was said to be disappointed at not being invited to the
wedding, was left off the guest list again - while John Travolta – who was
invited to the wedding but failed to attend – was not seen at the party
either, reports E! online.
Police cordoned off the neighborhood shortly before the party began and
threatened waiting photographers with citation if they blocked the streets.
Guests began to arrive at 6pm and Tom and Katie arrived at 6.40pm with
daughter Suri in a fleet of tinted-window black SUVs.
The ‘Mission Impossible’ stars children with Nicole Kidman, Connor and
Isabella, followed in a Bentley.
Many of the guests arrived in chauffeur driven Porsches and Bentleys but
‘Lord of the Rings’ star Orlando chose to drive himself in a yellow VW
Beetle.
Guests partied in marquees which had been put up to shelter them from the
evening’s rainfall.
Katie’s new best friend Victoria Beckham, who attended the wedding, was not
seen arriving at the party.
However, she was in Los Angeles last week, styling Katie for a cover-shoot
for Harper's Bazaar magazine.
Sources from the photo shoot – which numbered over 300 people – said the
production team were ordered not to look either Victoria or Katie in the
eye, reports the New York Post newspaper.
Meanwhile, A new Gallup survey says Americans gave Tom Cruise a "thumbs down" compared to other top Hollywood stars.
Asked whether or not they make a special effort to see movies starring 13 different Hollywood A-listers, nearly three times as many - 34 percent -said they avoid Cruise's pictures as those who said they seek them out- just 12 percent.
Cruise had the most negative reaction of any of the 13 stars in the poll. Angelina Jolie clocked in a distant second, with 18 percent saying they avoid seeing her movies.
Tom Hanks had the most positive reaction of any of the stars in the poll. Forty-four percent said they make a special effort to see his pictures, backed up by another 48 percent who said they consider seeing his films. Only 5 percent said they avoid them.
In other news, Tom Cruise's best friend David Miscavige has laughed off reports he joined actor and his new wife Katie Holmes on honeymoon.
Miscavige , chairman of the Scientology religion - of which Cruise and Holmes are followers - and served as best man at the couple's wedding in Bracciano, Italy on 18 November.
Reports suggested Miscavige and one other person joined the newlyweds and their baby daughter Suri on a cruise of the Maldives in the Indian Ocean.
"This is so stupid. I don't know how many times I have to say it: It is absolutely 100 percent not true. Mr Miscavige was not there."
