A source told Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "Mel is refusing to lie down
and let Eddie walk all over her - and this is reflected in her choice of
lawyer. She wants to hit him where it hurt the most - in the pocket. They
don't come much better than Don."
It has been estimated that with the help of her $500-an-hour legal advisor,
Mel could get as much has £15,000 in lifelong payments for their child.
However, Eddie- who is now reportedly dating film producer Tracey Edmonds -
has demanded a DNA test to prove the child is really his.
Engel - who counts Cher, Meatloaf and Fleetwood Mac among his past clients -
is considered on of Hollywood's most successful lawyers and enjoys taking on
high profile work.
The source added: "Don's services don't come cheap but he one of the best
lawyers around. Most lawyers would relish taking on an A-list star and Don
will surely be no exception.
"This is a war and if Eddie doesn't know it, he will very shortly."
Meanwhile, Jason Steele, the one-time Dreamboy stripper who spent ten months with former Spice Girl Mel is speaking out.
"Eddie's a fool letting her go," said Jason. "She's dynamite in bed and knows every trick. Eddie has really lost out.
"I wish I'd kept hold of her myself. Mel has a great body, a fantastic personality and an amazing appetite for sex."
"Mel was always in the mood for love and it was catching. There was this animal attraction I couldn't resist."
She first pounced on Jason at a party at her home in Marlow, Bucks. Just hours after meeting, she quietly led him to her room.
"Mel just assumed I'd sleep with her-and I had no objections!" he said. "She fell into my arms and kissed me so intensely I ran out of breath. Her lip ring added seriously to that kiss.
