Golden Globe nominees announced
Awards season has just begun. This morning the nominees for the 64th Annual Golden Globe Awards were announced. Among the multiple nominees were Babel, starring Brad Pitt, and Dreamgirls, starring Beyonce Knowles, Eddie Murphy and Jennifer Hudson. Leonardo DiCaprio scored two nominations for Best Actor in a Drama for his roles in The Departed and Blood Diamond. Helen Mirren managed to get three acting nominations. She was recognized in the category of Best Actress in a Drama for the Queen and was twice nominated in the category of Best Actress in a Miniseries or Made for TV Movie for Elizabeth I and Prime Suspect: The Final Act. Newcomer Emily Blunt was nominated for her breakout role in The Devil Wears Prada as well as her part in Gideon's Daughter. Steve Carell managed to be nominated for his work on "The Office" as well as his part in this summer's indie hit, Little Miss Sunshine. Also nominated twice was Clint Eastwood. Both Flags of Our Fathers and Letters From Iwo Jima earned him directorial nods. One of the surprise nominees was Sacha Baron Cohen, whose film Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan was recognized as a Best Comedy or Musical nominee. Baron Cohen was nominated as Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy. The comedian made the following statement about the nomination, "I have been trying to let Borat know this great news, but for the last four hours both of Kazakhstan's telephones have been engaged. Eventually, Premier Nazarbayev answered and said he would pass on the message as soon as Borat returned from Iran, where he is guest of honor at the Holocaust Denial Conference."
