Evangeline Lilly's house burns

Fire destroyed the rented home of "Lost" star Evangeline Lilly in coastal Kailua on Oahu island Wednesday.

The blaze at the 27-year-old's rented home broke out at 6.30am. Lilly shares the residence with two of the show's female crew members while working on the series, but none of the three were present at the time.

"Unfortunately, it is true that the home she rented in Hawaii did burn down this morning," said the actress' publicist Cara Tripicchio.

"Evangeline was on set already when the fire occurred and luckily, her roommates were not in the house either," the rep added.

"Thankfully, everyone is safe."

According to Kenison Tejada, a Honolulu fire captain, the home was beyond saving when firemen arrived on the scene.

"When we arrived the house was fully engulfed. It was a complete loss," he said.

The fire department received an alarm call at 6.43am and arrived six minutes later.

"We stopped the fire from spreading. It took us maybe 15 to 20 minutes to knock down the main body of fire.

"The only thing standing was the roof and a couple of the interior walls. Most of the contents had been destroyed. The home was pretty much destroyed and uninhabitable."

Morgan Janus, a neighbour who lives opposite, told the Honolulu Advertiser newspaper: "I woke up to my dogs barking. There were loud popping sounds, like something electrical."

Lilly, 27, who plays Kate in the cult TV drama, is dating co-star Dominic Monaghan.

The British actor, who starred in the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy, visited the house yesterday to inspect the damage but refused to comment.
