Ricci was named one of PETA's four worst dressed celebrities this year when she posed for the cover of the September issue of W magazine wearing a cape made of reindeer fur. One of Ricci's biggest fans heard about the actress' fondness for fur and decided to stop his website devoted to her, www.christinaricci.info. Explaining his decision to end the site, the fan said, "I recently found out Christina doesn't appear to have a problem wearing fur. Well, I do. I also have a problem with people who wear fur. Conclusion: I have a problem with Christina."
According to PETA, Christina had a change of heart about the fur industry when the organization sent her an email asking her to watch one of their fur exposes. Upon watching the program, Ricci wrote to PETA's Vice President Dan Matthews to apologize for wearing fur. She said, "After being named on the PETA worst dressed list for wearing fur on the cover of W magazine, I have been deluged with angry and disappointed fans. I never meant to hurt nor anger anyone with my insensitivity. For what it is worth, I have received the message loud and clear and will not be wearing fur in the future. I apologize for my offensive actions."
Christina has since been taken off the worst dressed list (which now lists only Nicole Richie, Ashley Olsen and Eva Longoria). A rep for PETA says that the organization also plans to send Ricci a Christmas basket filled with "cruelty-free goodies to thank her for her compassionate decision."
